About CJS Decorating

CJS Decorating was started up in November 2010 by local decorator Colin Bates.

Colin served his apprenticeship at Humphris & Sons Builders, Albert Street, Banbury and from 1985 to 2002, carried out all aspects of maintenance work to private & company properties including Wroxton College. His achievements include City & Guilds Painting & Decorating Certificate and Skill Test in Decorating.

Colin then moved on to Pete Miles Decorators for a year where he achieved experience in New build, Office refurbishments, Factory work and Contract vinyl papering.

 

With new experience gained Colin went on to work for Bluestone/Morgan Ashurst for just under 4 years where he under took School work, Hospitals, Thames Valley Police, Church properties & Subsidence Insurance work as well as interior & exterior decorating and small maintenance work. His achievements include CITB Health & Safety Test, Erection of mobile scaffold, Five day first aid course, Operating mobile work platforms/scissor lift and Asbestos awareness.

Then for just over 3 years Colin worked for Rok Build Oxford. He started off as a decorator before becoming a Lead Technician, which involved organising and supervising jobs. Work included water damaged insurance claims, Schools/Hospitals & working for landlords for commercial and private properties. His achievements include Risk Assessment & Management course, Two day First Aid refresher course, Manual Handling, Construction Site Managers Safety course, Supervisors H&S test CSCS card, Level 3 NVQ Occupational work supervision and Health & Safety Awareness.

In November 2010 Colin started CJS Decorating which he named after himself, daughter Jade and Wife Sarah.

The team have undertaken Insurance work, worked for local builders which include; ART Construction, R McNally Builders, McGhie Carter, Xel Projects LTD, All Trades Ltd. I.R.M Carpentry & Building Ltd & Mick J Sheasby. CJS also do the painting & maintenance to Bury Court Farm Shotteswell. Have redecorated the bar at The Plough Pub at Wardington and Hardwick Social Club. Also have totally redecorated Russell Collins’ new eco house from Hook Norton Pottery. They have also carried out numerous jobs to private properties in and around Banbury and surrounding villages.

CJS Decorating continued to grow in April 2016 with Wally Hastie joining the team. He served his apprenticeship at Dearing & Barnes where he achieved his City & Guilds and was with them from 1968 to 1973 He then worked for P R Alcocks from 1973 to 1989 before going self employed. He brings a wealth of experience to our ever growing team.
